Look, I'm going to be straight with you: I collect some data. Not because I'm building a surveillance empire, but because running a website and sending newsletters requires it. Here's exactly what I collect, why, and what I do with it.

What I Collect

If you subscribe to the newsletter:

  • Your email address (obviously)
  • When you signed up
  • Which articles you open
  • Which links you click

If you just read the site:

  • Pages you visit
  • How long you stay
  • What device/browser you're using
  • General location (city/country level, not your exact address)

What I don't collect:

  • Credit card info (I'm not selling anything)
  • Social media data
  • Anything from third-party trackers
  • Your personal information beyond email

Why I Collect It

Newsletter data helps me know what resonates. If nobody opens an article about meditation technique, maybe I wrote it poorly or maybe that topic doesn't interest you. That's useful information.

Site analytics tell me what's working and what isn't. Are people reading to the end? Bouncing after 10 seconds? Arriving from search or social? This helps me write better content.

I'm not trying to build an advertising profile of you. I'm trying to write things worth reading.

Who Else Sees Your Data

Ghost (sorenross.com hosting):

  • Stores your email if you subscribe
  • Manages newsletter delivery
  • Tracks email opens/clicks
  • Privacy policy: ghost.org/privacy

Plausible Analytics (if implemented) or Ghost Analytics:

  • Tracks site visits anonymously
  • No cookies, no cross-site tracking
  • GDPR compliant by design
  • Privacy policy: plausible.io/privacy

Cloudflare (site infrastructure):

I don't sell your data. I don't share it with advertisers. I don't do shady shit with it.

You can:

  • Unsubscribe anytime (link at bottom of every email)
  • Request a copy of your data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Update your email address

I'll respond within 30 days. Usually faster, but legally I have 30 days.

Cookies

The site uses minimal cookies:

  • Session cookies (so Ghost knows you're logged in if you subscribe)
  • Analytics cookies (if you don't block them)

No advertising cookies. No tracking pixels from Facebook/Google. No bullshit.

If you want to block cookies entirely, use an extension like uBlock Origin. The site will still work.

Changes to This Policy

If I change how I handle data, I'll update this page and note the date at the top.

For major changes (like adding a new analytics tool), I'll send an email to subscribers.
